With a brand value of millions and based in a country where cricket is a religion, Indian Premier League is the most attended cricket league of the entire world. If BCCI is to be believed then the matches of the year 2015 contributed more than eleven billion Rupees to the Indian Gross Domestic Product. With back to back matches, eight teams and a cap of eight overseas players per team, the Indian Premier League is the perfect opportunity for young players to make an impact that might get them selected in the National Cricket Team of India for international matches.

The IPL auctions 2019 saw three hundred and fifty-one players be put up for sale for the eight teams. On Tuesday, only sixty went under the gavel. The list of eight people who breached the eight crore mark had established players like Carlos Brathwaite, Colin Ingram, Axar Patel and Jaydev Unadkat. However, it also included as what was called relatively “obscure” players like the young English all-rounder and Indian Premier League debutant Sam Curran and Shivam Dube and Varun Chakravarthy. Varun Chakravarthy actually caused quite a stir when at tea whopping eight point four crore, he was the most expensive player sold at auction along with Jaydev Unadkat.

The established and highly experienced players, however, faced more problems at the IPL auctions 2019 with Yuvraj Singh selling only in the third round of auctions the superstar of Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore, Brendon McCullum failed to sell at all. Dale Steyn was one of those who was denied re-entry into the Indian Premier League as well. The West Indies batsman Nicholas Pooran was sold to Sunrisers Hyderabad and Shimron Hetmyr was bought Royal Challengers Bangalore. Both players cost four point two crore to the respective teams which bought them.
